Kubernetes Every Week
“Consistency of effort over the long run is everything” ― Angela Duckworth
Learning is one of my favourite hobbies. It doesn’t always have to be related to tech. Going to bed a little bit wiser than when I started the day always feels like a day well spent. The problem I have is that there are so many interesting things to learn and only so many hours in a day!
I was watching YouTube before bed one night this week and stumbled across a video by Ivan Djuric. The guy has documented every squat workout he’s done for the past six years, every day! While the workouts themselves are impressive, doing an activity consistently for so long while juggling all the other things life throws at us is much more admirable. If you’re interested in following his journey too, you can check his videos out here.
Now I’m not sure I want to build a habit of squatting every day, but I do want to improve my platform engineering skills. After speaking with a few platform engineers I hold in high regard, I’ve decided learning to build a platform on Kubernetes is a useful skill. Kubernetes is also something I’ve dabbled with throughout my career but never needed to go deep into. Doing so now seems like a fun idea!
When it comes to learning things well, I like to play the long game. That way I can take it steady and build knowledge over time and go beyond surface-level understanding. I try to let curiosity guide me and make consistency the aim. After all, learning should be fun!
For the next month I’m committing to writing one blog post on Kubernetes per week. Some may be longer, others may be shorter posts about a useful command I’ve discovered. My aim isn’t to become a Kubernetes wizard, but to build a habit of learning over time. It might work out, it might not, but either way I see no harm in giving it a go!
